HVAC air filter change

Swap the furnace or air-handler filter so air moves freely and the system isn't working harder than it needs to.

Steps

  1. 1Turn the thermostat off
  2. 2Note the size printed on the old filter's frame
  3. 3Slide out the old filter
  4. 4Check the airflow arrow on the new filter — it points toward the blower
  5. 5Slide in the new filter
  6. 6Write today's date on the frame
  7. 7Turn the thermostat back on

Steps follow the sources listed. Your item's manual comes first.

Turn the system off before removing the filter.

When to call a pro

If the old filter is wet, the blower sounds unusual, or you smell burning.
